SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant University men's basketball team turns the calendar to 2020 and opens its 18-game Northeast Conference schedule when defending NEC regular-season champion Saint Francis U visits Smithfield Thursday.

The Bulldogs and Red Flash open their conference slates at the Chace after Saint Francis U knocked Bryant out of the NEC tournament last season. Bryant and Saint Francis U enter conference play as two of three NEC teams with seven or more wins on the year.

SCOUTING THE RED FLASH
Saint Francis U enters the new year at 7-4 with a similar non-conference experience to Bryant. The Red Flash picked up a road win at an A10 opponent (Saint Joseph's), and like Bryant, won as many non-conference road games as home games. Both teams were defeated by 14 points in their lone contests against ranked opponents, as SFU faced No. 25 VCU in its season opener.

Keith Braxton ranks fourth in the NEC in scoring at 16.5 points per game, ninth in rebounding at 7.2 and fifth in assists at 4.2 per contest. Mark Flagg is leading the league at 66.7% shooting.

THE SERIES
The Red Flash hold a 12-9 advantage in the series and won two of three meetings last year, including a 67-63 win over Bryant in an NEC quarterfinal in Loretto. Juan Cardenas (Apartado, Colombia) led all scorers with 17 points in the March contest and added seven rebounds.

LAST TIME OUT: NO. 13 MARYLAND 84, BRYANT 70
Senior Adam Grant (Franklin, Va.) scored 25 points and redshirt-junior Ikenna Ndugba (Boston, Mass.) added 18, but a strong performance on the glass by No. 13 Maryland helped the Terrapins end Bryant's four-game winning streak Sunday afternoon.

HAPPY HALL DAYS
Redshirt-junior Hall Elisias (Valley Stream, N.Y.) averaged 7.8 rebounds and 5.0 blocks per game in five December contests. Elisias has recorded four of Bryant's top six single-game block totals in his first 13 games as a Bulldog with eight vs. Navy and six against Rutgers, Columbia and Dartmouth.

Elisias has blocked 17.4% of opponents' two-point attempts while on the floor this season, which ranks third in the nation.

The 39 total blocks for Elisias this year already rank tied for fourth in a single season in Bryant's Division I era and sixth in Bryant's D1 career history, while his 3.00 blocks per game rank 12th nationally.

A STRONG DECEMBER
Freshman Benson Lin (New Taipei City, Taiwan) averaged 12.2 points and 34.2 minutes per game during the month of December. The Bulldogs are 6-0 this season when Lin scores at least 10 points.

BOARD MAN GETS WINS
Sophomore Patrick Harding (Fairfield, Conn.) is averaging 9.9 rebounds per game over his first 13 games of 2019-20 and ranks second in the NEC and 24th in the nation in rebounding average.

Harding has collected 32.2% of potential defensive rebounds while on the floor this season, good for fifth nationally.

NEW ENGLAND EVOLUTION
Bryant's eight wins in 2019-20 are tied for the third-highest total among New England's 22 Division I programs through the end of December. Yale leads the way with 10 victories on the year, UConn is second with nine, while Bryant is tied with Boston College, Rhode Island and Vermont at eight.

ADAM ADDING TO CAREER NUMBERS
Grant is third on Bryant's Division I career scoring list at 1,564 career points entering Thursday. Only Alex Francis (2,085) and Dyami Starks (1,691) have scored more points than Grant in a Bryant uniform at the Division I level.

COMPUTER GAMES
Bryant's KenPom ranking of 206 is the program's highest since the Bulldogs came in at 200 prior to the Jan. 20, 2015 game vs. Harvard. Bryant's highest mark in the D1 era is 114 on Dec. 7, 2013.

MEN OF STEAL
Grant broke Corey Maynard's Division I program record for career steals Nov. 20 at Drexel and now has 122 for his career.

Ndugba passed Maynard for second Sunday at Maryland to improve to 117 for his career.

UP NEXT: FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON
Bryant plays the second of three straight home games to begin the conference schedule when Fairleigh Dickinson visits the Chace Athletic Center Saturday at 1 p.m. Tickets for Saturday are available HERE and the game can be seen on NEC Front Row with Jon Wallach and Frankie Dobbs on the call.
